Mindful interventions: Poverty, trauma and the brain Presented by Michelle Kreidler, LISW 1 free CEU for social workers, counselors, and marriage & family therapists who are NASW members $10 for 1 CEU for non-members Individuals living in poverty experience mental health disorders at a higher rate than the general population. Studies have demonstrated how poverty alters brain development, which can lead to maladaptive patterns of social attribution and/or elevated physiological stress. Understanding how these brain changes impact client outcomes is critical for social work professionals. Social workers must also be aware of effective interventions to help mitigate the effects of these brain changes. This workshop will address how evidence-based interventions such as mindfulness mitigate the brain changes. Michelle Kreidler is an independent social worker from Akron. She is also an adjunct instructor at the University of Akron's School of Social Work and Family Sciences and has a private practice in Fairlawn, Ohio. She has loved being a social worker for over 30 years.
