NASW Member Referral Campaign

Until October 31st, 2019 NASW is running a Member Referral Campaign, encouraging members to reach out to their friends and colleagues to share the benefits of membership! With each referral members will be advocating for the profession and helping to ensure we’re prepared with the resources, experience, and voices to make lasting change.

In addition, those who successfully refer a new member will receive their choice of a free Specialty Practice Section membership, a CE course discount, an NASW Press publication, or a social work gift as a thank you. Those who become new members before October 31st also receive the gift of a free Specialty Practice Section membership.

For this campaign the NASW is specifically targeting members who have been a part of NASW for ten years or more. NASW wants to recognize the dedication of these long-time members and encourage them to share why they are committed to the NASW.

National has identified over 30,000 long-time members, with over 800 being located here in Ohio! National is sending out letters and emails to these members to encourage them to join the campaign. National is also encouraging each state chapter to get involved in promoting the campaign.

Though NASW is focusing its efforts on recruiting long-time members to help with the campaign, all NASW members are welcome to participate and eligible for the prizes.

NASW Ohio plans to participate in the Member Referral Campaign in the following ways:

  • Sending hand written post cards, as follow ups to National’s letters, thanking members for their continued support for NASW and reminding them of the campaign.
  • Identifying other committed NASW members, who have not yet been members for ten years, to reach out to.
  • Celebrating all those who participate in the campaign, regardless of if those they refer choose to join, by recognizing them at the Annual Conference and offering a gift for them to claim at the conference in November.
  • Promoting the campaign at all Ohio's free member events.

So where do you come in?

  • Refer your friends and family!
  • Identify committed members in your region who have not been members for ten years yet for NASW to reach out to about the campaign.
  • Promote the campaign at the free member events in your region by showing this video we created and providing attendees with the other resources below.

Referral process:

  1. Identify social work friends and colleagues who are committed to the profession, but have yet to become members.
  2. Talk to them about why NASW membership is so important. Here is a sample letter, email, text and additional talking points.
  3. Direct them to the national websites' membership page to join the NASW or have them call the Ohio Chapter office at (614) 461-4484.
  4. Fill out this form once you have made a referral, and if they decide to become a member you will get your selected gift. The form link can also be found on the national website's Member Referral Campaign page under the "Campaign Materials" section, if you would like to share it with others.
  5. Send an email to hware.naswoh@socialworkers.org with the name of who you referred. Then, even if they don't join you will be able to pick up your free gift and receive recognition at the Annual Conference in November.
  6. If the individual you referred does join, have them fill out this form so that they can receive there gift. The form can also be found on the national website's Member Invite page under the "Campaign Materials" section.
