Call for Ohio Brain Injury Advisory Committee members.

The Brain Injury Advisory Committee is accepting nominations and applications for next term. You can apply or recommend someone who you think would be contribute to this group.

The Ohio Brain Injury Advisory Committee (BIAC) is a statewide advisory board made up of 10-12 individuals representing specific membership categories as defined in ORC Section 3304.231. These seats are held by members who are appointed by the Dean of the College of Medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for two-year, renewable terms. Appointed members are joined by the Director, or designee, of the following state departments: Department of Health, Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services, Department of Developmental Disabilities, Department of Job and Family Services, Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Workers' Compensation, Department of Education, Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, and the Department of Aging. Additionally, honorary members and volunteers also serve on the BIAC.


What positions are available for the 2020 – 2022 term?

  • Chair-Elect*
  • Survivor of Brain Injury
  • Relative of a Survivor of Brain Injury
  • Rehabilitation Professional
  • Individual who Represents the Brain Injury Association of Ohio
  • Health Care Professional
  • Individual who Represents the Public (3 positions available)

Each position is appointed for a two (2) year term. *Chair-elect is a one (1) year term.

How do you qualify to serve on the Committee? It’s simple!

-Have time to attend the quarterly Brain Injury Advisory Committee Meetings
-Have a willingness to participate in an orientation process with regard to individuals with brain injury and the Brain Injury Advisory Committee
-Have time to work on at least one workgroup

What are the expectations if elected to the Committee?

Serve for a two (2) year term January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021. Chair-elect will serve January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020 and will automatically become Chair January 1, 2021.
Attend/participate in quarterly Committee meetings in person (or via phone if on-site elsewhere). Only two unexcused absences.

The final day to submit a nomination is Friday, April 26, 2019. For any questions, ask a current Brain Injury Advisory Committee member or Membership Committee member!

What’s Next?

Once we receive your nomination form, the Membership Committee will review your information and reach out if we have additional questions. The Membership election will occur at the October 17, 2019 in-person Brain Injury Advisory Committee meeting. All applicants will be contacted following the outcome of this meeting.
