This webinar will explore the real-world gaps in perinatal mental health care, including barriers related to screening, access, insurance, and culturally responsive services. Participants will gain practical tools to better identify, support, and refer clients experiencing perinatal mental health concerns, even outside of specialty settings. This session will also highlight opportunities for social workers to play a more active role in bridging these gaps through trauma-informed, community-centered care.</p><p>Presenter:<br />Shemika Whiteside, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker and the founder of Perinatal Princess Therapy, a mental health practice dedicated to supporting individuals during pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. She is EMDR-trained and specializes in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, and life transitions. With experience across community-based, medical, and virtual care settings, Shemika is passionate about increasing access to culturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health services. Participants will learn core CCPT concepts, including tracking, reflecting feelings, returning responsibility, encouragement, and therapeutic limit setting. The training will also highlight social justice considerations, including cultural humility, access to care, trauma-informed practice, family systems, and how social workers can use a child-centered lens to honor children’s lived experiences within larger social, cultural, and systemic contexts.</p><p><em>Dr. Lauren Chase has professional, teaching, clinical, and scholarly experience related to child-centered play therapy, trauma-informed care, social justice, and counselor education. She earned her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from UNC Charlotte and has taught graduate counseling courses as a counselor educator. Her clinical background includes work with children, caregivers, families, and adults across community mental health, school-based, hospital, nonprofit, and outpatient settings. Dr. Chase has completed graduate-level training in Child-Centered Play Therapy and Child-Parent Relationship Therapy and has presented nationally and regionally on play therapy, trauma-informed care, multicultural counseling, and social justice. Her scholarship has focused on cultural humility, adverse childhood experiences, trauma-informed care, and social justice in play therapy.
