About the workshop

2020 is a time of resilience erosion.  There are so many demands at so many levels for individuals, social workers, communities, and societies.  As caring professionals, we are trying to keep ourselves and our clients safe, engage in social justice movements and cope responsibly with the 24 hour news cycle.  Maintaining resilience could not be more important: for us, our clients and our community.  We will learn( or re-member) a few concrete skills and reflect on how they can allow us to learn, model and teach resilience within our professional roles during this time in history.

Learning Objectives:

1.       Attendees will be aware that resilience includes a large set of skills that can be learned, improved upon, or maintained.

2.       Attendees will learn two cognitive skills shown to improve resilience: increasing emotional vocabulary and recognizing cognitions (the meanings) associated with stressful circumstances.

3.       Attendees will learn concrete steps to implement during a “fight, flight, freeze” response allowing for improved self-care and options to have more control over one’s decisions and actions.

4.       Attendees will reflect on ways to learn these skills, model them, and teach them within their professional roles.
