About the workshop:

How does Ohio budget and tax policy impact social services, safety nets, and our people and communities? During this 1 hour webinar we will discuss: 1. Ohio's budget priorities and procedures prior to COVID-19 2. How the pandemic has changed public finance in Ohio and throughout the country and 3. How to explain these issues in our communities to better assist clients and community members to be leaders in planning for the future.

About the presenter:

Nick Bates, (MTS, JD) has worked on budget and tax policy in Ohio as the Budget and Tax Policy Director for One Ohio Now - a statewide coalition of more than 100+ health and human service, labor, and community organizations since 2012. In addition to this, since 2015, Nick serves as the Director of the Hunger Network in Ohio - a faith-based network that works to end hunger by addressing the root causes of poverty. Prior to law school and seminary, Nick spent 6 years working with the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio (COHHIO) and their Youth Empowerment Program. Through these different non-profits, Nick has learned the importance of listening to authentic community voices and crafting policy solutions that will guarantee all people have a roof over their head, food on the table, and a little bit of money in their pocket. Nick, originally from the Cleveland area now lives in the Hilltop neighborhood of Columbus with his wife and two children.
