Celebrate Social Work with NASW Ohio!

In lieu of the NASW Ohio Social Work Celebration Gala, which has been cancelled due to COVID-19, we will be hosting a Virtual Awards Celebration. Though we cannot meet together, we don’t want to miss an opportunity to celebrate the passion and commitment of social workers, which is apparent now more than ever.

During this virtual ceremony we will recognize our outstanding regional and state winners, enjoy a music performance by Kevin Diaz, give away raffle prizes, and celebrate the social work profession. So, invite your friends, family, and colleagues, get dressed up for the party, and join in the celebration! Fancy Zoom-call attire  is encouraged.

All are welcome to attend the virtual event for free or by purchasing a $20 donation ticket. Proceeds will support NASW Ohio’s continued advocacy work during this critical time and our Statewide Agency of the Year, Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center (IJPC).

For 35 years, the Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center (IJPC) has and continues to educate and advocate for peace, challenge unjust local, national, and global systems, and promote the creation of a nonviolent society. The COVID-19 crisis has exposed many of the unjust systems that we work to change and created larger disparities of inequality and injustice in our communities. IJPC advocates for and with those on death row, immigrant families, and victims of human trafficking, who experience increased risk and vulnerability during these times.

In April, incarcerated people made up 20% of Ohio’s entire coronavirus cases. During the last 8 weeks IJPC has been working collaboratively to better protect incarcerated people and immigrant detainees from COVID-19 and free all those who should be released.

Many immigrant families continue to face discrimination and struggle to receive assistance without stimulus checks or unemployment benefits. IJPC addresses these needs at a systemic level by convening the Immigrant Dignity Coalition, facilitating local organizations and activists who share resources and support.

Your contribution will support IJPC’s work to uplift the stories of the most vulnerable and advocate for solutions to challenges identified by impacted peoples.

NASW Ohio is dedicated to supporting, promoting and advocating for the social work profession in order to improve the quality of life for Ohioans. During this time, a unified advocacy voice is more important than ever. Together we have been able to connect social workers to critical and timely information on teleheath and regulation changes. Together we have secured Medicare reimbursements for phone-only service. Together we have been able to connect social workers to information on their rights as workers. We are are stronger together.

If you are not a member of NASW, please consider joining to help strengthen the social work advocacy voice. If finances restrict you from joining, consider purchasing a ticket for this event to help us continue to support Ohio's social workers.
