About the workshop:

This workshop will explore the human-animal bond as an often unacknowledged need in the social safety net. The presenters will share an overview and case examples of human-animal support services in Ohio including integrated homelessness outreach to community-based services and supports. Attendees will gain an understanding of why it is important to address the human-animal bond to provide ethical, effective social work services.

1-Participants will be able to define what is meant by the human-animal bond and how such a bond may be encountered and/or supported during the course of social work practice.

2-Participants will be able to identify social work values and ethical imperatives that relate to supporting the human-animal bond.

3-Participants will learn about human animal-support services and other examples of integrated practice and resources, including case examples.

4-Participants will be able to integrate the human-animal bond into a broad picture of the social work profession and understand where social work education is and can play a role in furthering this work.
