Culturally Competent Supervision

9 a.m. – 12:15 p.m., 3 CEUs for social workers and counselors, meets supervision requirement
Presented by Rachel Weaver

Culturally competent supervision refers to supervision guided by knowledge of culture as it relates to ethnicity, race, age, class, gender, sexual orientation, religion, immigration status, literacy, and mental/physical disability. This course will encourage supervisors to explore how they are impacted by their own and their supervisees’ cultures within the supervisory relationship. Furthermore, obstacles to supervisees’ success will be examined by taking into consideration the unique cultural context and history of the individual. Attendees will be able to leave the workshop with a variety of skills, tools, and interventions to support them through the supervisory process.

Ethics, Values, and Boundaries for Helping Professionals

1:15-4:30 p.m., 3 CEUs for social workers and counselors, meets ethics requirement
Presented by Rachel Weaver

Ethical decision making for helping professionals occurs every day in a variety of settings. Many times, however, professionals find that legal, ethical, and personal standards come into conflict. This workshop will focus on effective ethical decision-making processes and will aid professionals in taking the fear out of making “the right choice”. Professional boundaries and behaviors will also be addressed, allowing participants to discuss case examples as well as the most common ethical and boundary violations.
