About the Workshop:

Evidence shows that voting results in better health and employment; more resources from elected officials; and stronger connections. This workshop will provide an overview of barriers to civic participation and review voter engagement activities that nonprofits and social service agencies can engage in to build political power among their constituencies. This workshop is in collaboration with the national Voting is Social Work campaign. Participants will leave with practical tools and resources to start voter engagement work right away!

About Voting is Social Work:

Voting is social work is a national campaign that seeks to:

- Integrate voter engagement activities into class and field education for all micro and macro students

- Raise awareness of the importance of voting to social work practice and social policy;

- Provide information about voter mobilization skills and strategies to field instructors, students and faculty for use in agencies and the classroom, and

- Ensure that all the people served by social workers have access to the vote
