A New Opportunity to Engage and Soar

There's exciting news for the development of future social workers. In the summer of 2017, NASW will launch the Associate Degree (Pre-Social Work) Student membership category for a $57 annual membership fee. About 1,000 pre-social work students throughout Ohio are completing coursework at community colleges in an associate degree on the pathway to an accredited bachelor’s in social work.

NASW Ohio Chapter is implementing the Associate Degree (Pre-Social Work) Engagement Committee as a strategy to engage faculty and students.

Committee Chair

Neisha Wiley, MSW, LSW

Neisha Wiley graduated from the University of Cincinnati with her Associates of Arts Degree in 2001, her BSW in 2003 and her MSW in 2009. Neisha obtained her LSW in 2004. She is currently a social worker at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Mission & Goals

Over the next year, our mission is to engage Pre-Social Work students in membership to:

  • Increase awareness of the advocacy on their behalf by showing how NASW voices the concerns of social workers during state discussions of compensation, reasonable caseloads, and more.
  • Empower students to use the ethics consultation hotline to help them through ethical dilemmas, with constructive dialogue and considerations consistent with the Code of Ethics.
  • Encourage students to explore the options of specialty credentialing as this is an important next step in the social work career after completing a degreed program.
  • Enhance students’ skills through promoting the professional development webinars offered by NASW to assist them in learning about trends in social work.
