Almost 20,000 refugees have resettled in the Central Ohio region since 2003. Research indicates policies, resources, and cultural attitudes and biases contribute to Somalian refugees struggle with resettlement in the United States. Based on focus groups with Community Refugee & Immigration Services (CRIS) - an independent non-profit organization that serves the growing refugee and immigration population in Central Ohio - and Columbus Vineyard Church Immigration Counseling - low-cost immigration legal assistance for those under 200 percent of the poverty level - social workers will explore the following question: "How does the Somalian refugee population in Columbus, Ohio self-identify their own resilience and what tools/attitudes/programs can be developed to enhance resilience?" Social Workers will also learn how to apply an advocacy model to the social justice issue of refugee resettlement in Ohio.

We'll have lunch for you at noon as well!

Psst, NASW Members! If you bring a non-member to the workshop, we’ll send you home with a prize!
