NASW- OH Supervision Registry
In response to membership request, NASW-Ohio chapter has created a supervision registry to provide an affordable, efficient method to connect those in need of supervision to those who are qualified and interested in supervising.
Who would be seeking supervision?

In some cases a LSW does not have a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervisor designation (LISW-S) at their work site and must find a LISW-S willing and qualified to provide the training supervision needed to obtain an LISW.

There are LISWs who have an interest in expanding their areas of competence and need to find a LISW-S who has the expertise to provide the support and advanced supervision needed to acquire the competence area sought.
Who can provide supervision?

In 2007, the State of Ohio added a new requirement (Rule 4757-23-01) stating all training supervision (for LSWs aspiring to obtain their LISWs) may only be provided by an LISW with supervisory designation (LISW-S.) There are certain requirements to obtain the LISW-S and there are continuing education requirements to maintain it.
I thought one could not purchase supervision?

In November 2008, the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Family Therapist (CSWMFT) Board changed the rule to allow an individual to purchase supervision. Prior to this a supervisee was mandated to request special permission from the CSWMFT Board to purchase supervision hours.
The Scope of the NASW, OH Supervision Registry Program

The registry is to connect members needing supervision to those offering to provide supervision. A listing in the NASW-Ohio registry is not an endorsement of any supervisor or a verification of their qualifications. It is only a listing provided as a service to members, allowing social workers to review and select potential supervisors. It is up to the supervisees to assure themselves of the supervisors’ qualifications.

Payment arrangements are between the supervisor and the supervisee only. Neither NASW-OH nor NASW, the CSWMFT Board, nor any of their employees, officers, board members nor volunteers will be a party to any transaction between supervisor and supervisee, nor will any of them be liable for the actions or inactions of either supervisor or supervisee. It is the recommendation of NASW, OH Chapter that the parties sign a mutually agreed upon contract that specifies the responsibilities and relationship of both parties.
