2009 Leadership Retreat Strategy Planning
Priority Issue 1: Membership
Strategic Goal: Increase membership by doing outreach to paraprofessionals.
Objectives:
1. Develop relationships with agencies that employ paraprofessionals by faxing NASW workshop invitations to offer free non-CEU training opportunities for paraprofessionals.
2. Include BSW/MSW college packets on the Registration Sheet table. Time Frame: Ongoing.
How Addressed: With Regional Directors, maintain agency fax numbers and e-mail addresses to invite paraprofessionals as well as NASW and non-NASW members to workshops.
Priority Issue 2: Social Work Public Education Campaign
Strategic Goal: Inform the public about violence against social workers to increase support for safety legislation.
Objectives:
1. Involve an investigative reporter to publicize the factors that contribute to the violence toward social workers.
2. Include legislators on the Workplace Violence Task Force. Time Frame: 1/10
How Addressed: Professional Issues Committee. Workplace Violence Task Force.
Priority Issue 3: Diversify Revenues
Strategic Goal: Increase revenue
Objective: Chart higher non-NASW rate for social workers attending Safety and De-Escalation Techniques workshops Time Frame: 1/10
How Addressed: Workplace Safety Task Force will identify workshop presenters
Priority Issue 4: Advocate for Social Policies that Advance Social justice and Diversity.
Strategic Goal: Expand Title Protection to include Scope of Practice Protection to prevent encroachment of Social Work jobs in hospitals, agencies and insurance companies.
Objective: Encourage social workers to contact the Professional Issues Chair about instances that RN’s performed a social work duty with inadequate results for Data Collection.
Time Frame: Ongoing.
How Addressed: Blast e-mail. Article in E-Newsletter. Article in NASW Ohio Newsletter.
Diversity: Continue to recruit Committee members from each region being aware that the members represent client diversity.
Recommendations: Supervision Workshops should include concepts of Social Work Leadership. Managing and Supervising are not the same as Leadership - staff development, staff participation and brain-storming in decision-making, institutional advocacy for staff.
