5/6- HB 545 Payday Lending- Yesterday, the Ohio House of Representatives passed comprehensive reform to exploitative payday lending. Instead of the 391% annual interest that the industry had been charging, they'll be limited to a more reasonable 28% rate if the bill gets through the Senate and is signed. The Governor has voiced his strong support, and the Senate, with bipartisan sponsorship, seems likely to back the measure.

4/24- PTSD- A new report finds that nearly 20% of Troops Suffer from Depression or PTSD.  To view the report click here

4/1- Medicaid Buy-In- After many years of advocacy efforts and an administrative implementation delay,Medicaid Buy-In for workers with disabilities is a reality effective April 1, 2008. The Medicaid Buy-In program allows adults with disabilities to earn more than would otherwise be possible and still have Medicaid coverage. In return, participants “buy into” the Medicaid program by paying premiums based on income. Approximately 7,000 Ohioans are expected to qualify for the program.

4/1- Children’s Buy In-Governor Ted Strickland signed an Executive Order this week creating a state funded Children’s Buy-In Program which allows uninsured special needs children in families with incomes exceeding 300% of the federal poverty level ($63,000 a year for a family of four) to apply for health care coverage.
